The

The school is named after Mikołaj Witczak who was a doctor, businessman
and philanthropist.He was born
in Biedziadowo in Great Poland region.
Between the end of 1895 and beginning of 1896 Witczak became the
owner
of Jastrzębie spa which he soon expanded and modernized. Witczak not
only treated people and conducted
charitable activities but as a great
patriot, he was also involved in a fight with some invaders. Many
Silesians
admired Witczak and followed in his footsteps. Witczak had
two sons who he raised in a patriotic way.
Witczak died on
20th February 1918 and was buried in a graveyard at Saint Catherine
Church
in Jastrzębie Górne.

We live in
disadvantaged society for socio-economic and geographic reasons. Our
school is situated
in
Silesia, in the south of Poland. It is an industrial region which is
very polluted. The unemployment
rate is one of the highest in our
country. This is mainly due to the closure of coal mines.
Our pupils
are those with mental disabilities (mostly mild and profound) so they
are at risk of social exclusion.
Despite of living
in a disadvantaged area of Poland our teachers and pupils take an
active part
in
different educational undertakings. While involved in such an activity
our pupils willingly perform
all the tasks to the best of their
ability. For this reason we would like to participate in the
Partnership.
We want to cooperate with other European countries, to
learn about distinctive features of their fauna and
flora and to raise
awareness of the European membership. Becoming a partner school would
also motivate
teachers and pupils to learn and improve their English
language skills. It would enable teachers to
exchange experience based
on working with special needs pupils.
Polish school
will be the
coordinating institution. It will supervise all ongoing activities and
will
guarantee efficient and continuous transfer of information.
Partner institutions
as well as the Polish one will promote the Partnership in local media
and press, organize workshops,
exhibitions and other educational
activities,
will fully cooperate and exchange information on a regular
basis. Constant evaluation of performed tasks
and their end products
will also be the objective of the partners’ cooperation.
